Italy: Verona

Verona is called by many Italian long and regional trains. Coming from the north, the city can easily be reached with the frequent EC trains operated by Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB) in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn (DB), These trains come with a separate bicycle car. Some of them run to and from Venice, with a longer stop in Verona, some start here. If you want to take a bike with you it's advisable to book in advance, and when Deutsche Bahn tells you that bike space was no longer available try ÖBB directly.

You can also set out on several bicycle routes running through Verona.

Austria

Austria has one of Europe's most reliable and ambitious train companies: The ÖBB ("Österreichische Bundesbahnen") is a driving force in the revival of a trans-European railway network.

For many years, their "DoN" diningcars however, had not been offering any organic food items. Fortunately, this is a thing of the past: On the Railjet train from Salzburg to Vienna and Bratislava (taken February 2023) the menu offered one vegetarian and one meat-based organic main course (spicy rmushroom potato roast and paprika chicken, resp.), an organic goulash meat stew, assorted organic cheese, prepackaged honey and rice wafers, fruit juice and smoothies, tea, one type of each, organic beer and wine. There was no fully organic breakfast, but butter, jam, cereals and honey are.

Austria: Salzburg

Located directly at the German-Austrian border, Mozart's birthplace can easily and frequently be reached by trains run by the national railway companies Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB). Comfortable night trains operated by ÖBB and privately held Alpen-Sylt Nachtexpress link the city with many European destinations, e.g. Venice, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Hamburg. Salzburg is also a destination of Westbahn's rapid connections between Vienna and Munich.

The Austrian capital is perfectly linked to most of Europe by the railway network of Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB). Comfortable night trains run to (among other destinations) Venice, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Hamburg. In 2022 Westbahn started to run rapid day connections between Vienna and Munich.
